Carbon Man Arrested After Crashing Into Brazil Subway

A man has been arrested after police say he crashed his vehicle into the Brazil Subway before leaving the scene, all while under the influence.

According to Brazil Police Chief Clint McQueen, the crash occurred at the Subway located at 1109 E National Ave at during the 10 a.m. hour Friday.

After crashing into the building the man reportedly put the vehicle in reverse and backed out of the wreckage before fleeing the scene.

McQueen said the vehicle’s damage however didn’t let the man get far as he was found by police after his vehicle had broken down just a few blocks away.

McQueen said officers placed Eric Bendzsa, 54, of Carbon under arrest and took him to the Clay County Justice Center. Bendzsa faces preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

No employees or customers were injured in the incident. “If this crash happened just an hour later, it might have been a different story,” McQueen said.

The chief added that he expects Subway will be closed for some time as the broken glass is cleaned up and repairs begin.
