Peru Independence Day Celebration, Latin Dance Classes and a Cocktail Making Class — 5 in-state Events to Check Out



From Peru’s Independence Day celebration and Latin dance classes to a cocktail-making class, Connecticut has a series of Latin events coming up that appeal to various interests.

Here are five in-state events coming up in July and August:Latin dance studio to host salsa rueda and Kizomba classes

NEW HAVEN — Baila Con Gusto CT Studio, located at 57 Olive St. in New Haven, is hosting its weekly beginner Kizomba and level two salsa rueda class with Luis Miguel on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Kizomba is a dance and musical genre, originating in Angola in the 1980s. Salsa rueda, also known as Rueda de Casino, is a type of salsa round dance, originating in Cuba. The beginner Kizomba class will begin at 7 p.m. and the level two salsa rueda class will start at 8 p.m. Partner and dance experience not required for the beginner Kizomba class. Tickets are $20 and are available on the Eventbrite website. Latino venue to host Peru Independence Day celebration

HARTFORD — Elegance Hall, located at 2964 Main St., Hartford, is hosting a Peru Independence Day celebration on Friday at 6 p.m. Friday commemorates Peru’s liberation from Spain by José de San Martin. Peruvian musical artists Tony Rosado, Karen Riques, Nash Moreno and Sabor Latino will perform at the event. In addition to the entertainment, Peruvian food and inflatables for children are available. The evening is an excellent experience for the whole family and an opportunity to celebrate Peruvian culture and independence. Tickets are $25 per person and are available on the Tickeri.com website. SCOW to host weekly mental health sessions

WALLINGFORD — The Spanish Community of Wallingford is hosting its weekly “Chats with Jasmine” on Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The weekly sessions began last Friday and will offer guidance on improving yourself and tips and resources on self-care and managing mental health. Sessions are available for anyone over 18 years old. To participate, call SCOW at 203-265-5866. “Chats with Jasmine” is free and open to the public; registration is required.Stamford Mexican restaurant to host a salsa dance party

STAMFORD — Mexican restaurant Riviera Maya, located at 20 Summer St., Stamford, is organizing a salsa dance party and networking event on Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 10 p.m. Maria Fiora, the Latin dance instructor and owner of Maria Fiora’s Dance Studio, will host the salsa class, practice and competition portion. Fiora has instructed, performed and DJed for over 20 years and is a notable figure in the Stamford community. Tickets are $25 per person and are available on the Eventbrite website. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Lucky Dog Refuge CT, a nonprofit organization based in Stamford that focuses on saving dogs who require refuge. Mexican restaurantto host class oncocktail making

WEST HARTFORD — Mexican Restaurant Rosa Mexicano, located at 51 Isham Rd., West Hartford, will host a summer cocktail class on Monday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to learn how to make four of the restaurant’s new margaritas while enjoying its most popular snacks, including their critically acclaimed guacamole. To participate, guests must be over 21 years old. General admission is $65 per person and tickets are available on the Eventbrite website.
